Metro “Opens Doors” to Brawl
August 10, 2010
Over the past year or so, the Washington Dc public transportation system has had it’s share of problems and issues, from train operators over shooting the station stops to several incidents with trains crashing into each other. The latest incident occured over the weekend when a group of approxitmately 70 teens entered the Gallery Place metro station.
The youths boarded a green line train bound for the Branch Ave station. When the train arrived at Le’Enfant Plaza, a fight spilled out onto the platform. It is unknown where the fight actually had begun, but a Metro Transist officer was on scene and immediatly called for back up.
The fight continued for several minutes until more officers arrived and they were able to take control. A few of the teens along with a couple of bystanders sustained minor injuries. At the time of this article, 1 adult and 2 teens are in custody.
With all of the rate hikes and public issues invloved with the Metro system today, is it even worth using public transportation anymore? It seems to some that we are paying more to get less. You would think with all of the fare increases in the past couple of years, there would be working trains, better service, and more Police Officers.
We understand that prices have to be raised sometimes in order to provide service, but we shouldn’t have to wear a complete NFL uniform with a helmet just to get from point A to B.
